About Henry Perry’s Dog
The dog who portrays Buddy in the Henry Perry Series is Annie Kathryn Wolff, a rescued “Carolina Dog” who has been an important part of author Betsy Wolff’s family for eight years.
Abandoned in a goat pasture as a small puppy, Annie was saved by a rescue organization near Greenville, South Carolina. Her brother puppy died from exposure, but immediate and comprehensive medical care saved Annie.
Betsy Wolff and daughter Eliza originally planned to adopt a Sheltie at the rescue organization. As they were walking past the puppy enclosure to see the Sheltie, little Annie hopped up on a doghouse with the grace of a gazelle and looked directly at them. Her then golden eyes said only one thing – please take me home.
“Annie is just the BEST of many breeds and is a wonderful example of a successful dog rescue,” said Betsy. “I hope her story will encourage others to adopt a pet from an animal shelter or rescue organization.”
What is a Carolina Dog?
While there are as many definitions of Carolina Dogs as there are favorite barbecue spots in the Carolinas, most people agree that these golden or tan colored dogs are mixed breed miracles whose families almost always include a bit of Labrador Retriever.
“One thing is for sure,” said Betsy. “Those labs do get around.”
